work | text | biography

Strong, graphic impressions of nature reflect Susanšs childhood in Zimbabwe and previous career as a freelance designer and illustrator. She has been painting full time since 2000 and is an elected Member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art (awarded Best Colour Painting, 2004).

"My principle medium is soft pastel. Unframed work is done on hand-made Himalayan Lokta fibre paper, which I stretch over a wooden support. I add finely ground mica flake and powder pigments to acrylic paint and mediums to give me a soft, controllable metallic sheen.

My subject varies widely. I am drawn to and inspired by shape, though sometimes work springs entirely from my imagination. Using line, colour, pattern and contrast, I attempt to make the subject my own. The result is a celebration of nature and often quite decorative".
